Is 'Doctor Odyssey' on ABC tonight? Here's when 'Doctor Odyssey' returns with new episodes in 2025 (2025)

New year, new you! Just kidding, you’re still hopelessly pacing and waiting for Doctor Odyssey to return, aren’t you?

It’s been more than a month since we left off with Dr. Max (Joshua Jackson), Avery (Phillipa Soo), and Tristan (Sean Teale), and I can feel everyone getting impatient for Doctor Odyssey Episode 9 to air. That’s because aside from the world wanting more of the Ryan Murphy-produced chaos, the series left us on a major cliffhanger with a bun-in-the-oven reveal for Avery.

Since Episode 8, “Quackers,” aired at the end of November, we’ve had to silently sit — and watch other ABC programs like High Potential starring Kaitlin Olson and Abbott Elementary, of course — while we wait to find out the fate of our favorite characters. Will Avery go through with the pregnancy? Is Max the father or is it Tristan? Will Captain Robert (Don Johnson) finally get a week without anything eventful shaking up the ship’s itinerary? We can almost certainly rule out that one.

How Did Doctor Odyssey Episode 8, “Quackers,” End?

In Episode 8, the audience discovered that after Tristan, Max, and Avery’s little menage-a-trois in Episode 6, Avery has come down with a nasty case of preggers. And before you ask the question we immediately thought of, yes, she is sure. TV loves to fake us out with false positives only for blood tests to later reveal no baby-on-board but they confirm Avery is eating for two.

As for what she is planning to do about it — remember, she is just about to start medical school and is still planning on working her current job as a nurse practitioner aboard The Odyssey — the jury is still out. Tristan and Max hesitantly signaled that they are supportive of her making a decision as it is her body and her choice, but Avery is feeling majorly conflicted. After the big reveal, Decider chatted with Soo and she alluded to some tough choices ahead.

“It’s been a couple of months since we’ve shot, we didn’t know where we would be at this moment just for our country post-election. But I’m really proud and honored to be an artist and to have the opportunity to bring truth and humanity — as much truth and humanity as possible — to this story of a woman’s conversation with herself about what choices she wants to make about her own body,” she explained.
