Web 2.0

September 18th, 2005

Few days back I had written about the changing trends in the web industry. Web 2.0 is re-defining the way the internet works.

Over the past year the idea of the Web as an operating system has been widely debated, but not well understood. It’s true that the Web has become the locus of many traditional PC–based computing tasks. But what’s next?

Well, I just happen to come across NetVibes.com

  • to create a personalized page with the content they like.
  • to put together data feeds and services from web 2.0 with a very simple interface
  • to access your page anytime and from any computer .

Is the web changing?

Past few months have seen a hughe influx of applications on the internet that have being developed using the AJAX technology to increases the response time. There are many such applications claiming to change the way the web works. I happen to beta test one such technology but have been advised against discussing the details, so we won’t discuss it for now ;)

Moving on, I came across Start.com project by Microsoft using excessive AJAX and DOM. I was very curious to check the source code, and to my surprise, found many linked JavaScript files and hardly any (X)HTML tags!!

The questions popping up in my mind are:
Are we depending heavily on JavaScript, DOM and DHTML?
What will happen to Web Standards?

I know I am talking about the Web Applications here and not Websites. But don’t you feel the developers across will start aping the technology come up with some weird scripts claiming to enhance the user experience on the internet?

Zen Garden entry on Netcocktail!

August 30th, 2005

Had received a mail from Lou few weeks back asking for my permission to list my Zen Garden Entry on his site as he liked the color schemes that I had used.

Today I just happen to visit Netcocktail and found out that my design has already been listed on his site!

Just want to thank Lou for adding my entry to his list of color schemes.
